Seedy hotel room diorama - Part 3

Continued with some more of my diorama tonight.

The 'stained' mattress and pillow. Seemed a shame to stain it cos it looked so nice with the new material but would have looked silly to have had a new looking mattress in the scene, so using a wet teabag i made gross stains :-). Stuffing out of bottom of mattress to add perception of age.

There's the fork and i was particularly pleased at how real the mattress looked!

Toilet paper, floppy disks to shelf; danger sign to door; coat hanger on side of bed.

Another satisfying afternoon continuing on my diorama. This time, concentrating on making 'bricks' for the exterior. Cutting the 'bricks' for the exterior. These are made from egg cartons. After this, each corner of the brick is cut off ever so tiny so that it gives a more realistic look when glued on the diorama. Colouring the 'bricks' with soft pastels until i get the shades i want. The 'bricks' are then affixed to the diorama box A 'spacer' is used to ensure level placement of the bricks and an even space to 'grout' later to complete the job. Row upon row.... Making connections - the s.s. Tainui Disaster

I snap thousands of grave and memorial photos.  Of course sometimes they 'ring bells' in my head as the various facts come together during research.   New Zealand is a small world after all and  lives of those who have crossed each others paths for some reason or other does happen. Here are a couple that have that connection and one of them, Charles WILLIAMS provided a few surprises. The s.s. Tainui Disaster [32] The Tainui which was a wooden cargo vessel, was carrying a load of benzine that it was ill equipped to do so.  The inevitable happened, she exploded near Shag Rock on the Canterbury Coast, off Gore Bay in North Canterbury and all but 1 of the 9 crew were drowned on 16th September 1919. Emily and her parents grave* Click for Updated photo of the grave by 'Timespanner' 1 January 2011 LOVE AND CRIME Fearful double tragedy at Arch Hill A young lady shot by her lover A thrill of horror ran through the town last evening when it became known that the horrible crimes of murder and suicide had been committed at Arch Hill. The sad news was first conveyed to the Newton Police Station by a youth named Arthur Shannon, who at that time simply knew of the suicide of the murderer. Constable Clark sent word to the central police station, and at once proceeded to the scene of the crime. It was not until some time afterwards that it was known that the perpetrator of the rash act had also committed the fearful crime of murder.
